Oregon WAND members are amazing people! While we know about WAND activities, our members are also busy volunteering for other worthwhile causes. Each month we will showcase one Oregon WAND member, sharing the wonderful contributions our members are making in our community, our country and our world.

Oregon WAND member Pat Gripp has many interests. She taught English at Thurston Junior High and Thurston High School in Springfield, and also taught in Lowell and McKenzie School Districts.

Pat is an avid biker, both for pleasure and as a means of transportation to work. She has participated in the Oregon Bike Ride. She is also very conscious of her carbon footprint in her household practices. Pat hasn't owned a dryer for years!

Pat has served on the McKenzie Watershed Council, McKenzie School Board and volunteers for the McKenzie Education Fund.

This past February she joined HELPS Cascade Medical Team to work on the cooking crew when they traveled to Guatemala. While there, the team treated 1,722 patients through the clinic, served 280 dental patients, did 275 eye exams, 28 eye surgeries, 81 medical surgeries, and served 2,600 meals. To sum up her experience, Pat said, "I just chopped and served and was in awe of the doctors and nurses that gave their hearts and their time."

We appreciate your passion and dedication to making the world a better place, Pat!
